Manufacturing

Our work is connected to small shops in Lhasa and Nagqu. We work with artisan friends and also select pieces from friends’ shops. Materials and designs vary; see the description and options for the individual piece.

Before dispatch, finished pieces are taken to Jokhang Temple in Lhasa for blessings and prayers for the wearer’s safe journeys, health, and well-being. These are sincere wishes, not guarantees of health, safety, prosperity, or other outcomes. They do not imply an endorsement of our store by the temple.

Strung as a bracelet to be worn daily and close to the skin. Brass — a copper-zinc alloy — has been used across the Himalayas for ritual fittings and bead caps for centuries. Its warm gold tone deepens with handling, and antique-finished brass is intentionally darkened to read as aged.

Bodhi seeds carry the name of the tree the Buddha is said to have sat beneath. Each seed has its own pores and markings, so no two beads are alike, and they lighten toward honey-gold as they age with use.

Each piece is finished by hand, so small variations in grain, color, and patina are part of the material rather than flaws.
