Manufacturing

Our work is connected to small shops in Lhasa and Nagqu. We work with artisan friends and also select pieces from friends’ shops. Materials and designs vary; see the description and options for the individual piece.

Before dispatch, finished pieces are taken to Jokhang Temple in Lhasa for blessings and prayers for the wearer’s safe journeys, health, and well-being. These are sincere wishes, not guarantees of health, safety, prosperity, or other outcomes. They do not imply an endorsement of our store by the temple.

Most stone settings hide their engineering. This one turns it into the design: two gilt vajra-shaped prongs grip the agate eye bead from above and below, so the fastening becomes part of the iconography. In most Buddhist lineages the vajra stands for a clarity nothing can cut through, which makes it a fitting clamp for a bead with a weathered-looking surface.

Small accent stones mark the corners of the hexagonal face plate. The eye bead measures about 10 × 9 mm, cream ground with a dark pupil and an oily sheen.

The shank is open at the back.
